CarShare Vermont To Launch in December!

Known around town as Mr. Multi-modal, I'm always looking for ways to help residents find alternatives to driving solo. A great new venture will enable families to own fewer cars because there will be shared cars located in many locations around town.

Starting this December, you'll be able enjoy the convenience and freedom of a car on demand at a fraction of the cost of owning one (or more than one). CarShare VT gives you easy access to a network of vehicles parked around town that you can use whenever you want for as long as you like. You pay based on how much you drive—this saves you money and helps the environment. Whether you have errands to run, need a car for work, or want to get out of town for the weekend, CarShare Vermont can get you there. It’s really that simple!

We'll start with 8 cars. We need names for each car. Submit your name ideas to me (chapin@localmotion.org) and everyone who suggests a name we pick will win a prize.

Commission Unanimously Endorses Roundabout

Tonight, Burlington's Public Works Commission voted 4-0 to advance Burlington's first roundabout. The proposed one-lane design is great and will tame the hazardous Shelburne / Locust / Ledge / St. Paul / South Willard intersection. For a City that claims to be on the forefront, Burlington is coming late to the roundabout revolution. The roundabout was endorsed by the Burlington Walking Work Group and the Burlington Bike Council.

The intersection is a "high crash location" -- one of the 50 most accident-prone intersections in the state. The one-lane roundabout will make this gateway into the City a safer place for walkers, bicyclists and motorists. The City staff and the DPW Commission deserve credit for their leadership on this issue.
